Rocket Science: An Overview Rocket science is the branch of aerospace engineering that deals with the design, construction, and use of rockets for space exploration, military and scientific purposes. The field combines a wide range of scientific and technological disciplines such as physics, chemistry, aerodynamics, and materials science . The basics of rocket science date back to the early 20th century when pioneers like Robert Goddard and Konstantin Tsiolkovsky laid the theoretical foundations for space travel. However, it wasn't until the latter half of the 20th century, with the advent of the Space Age and the launch of the first artificial satellite, Sputnik 1 , that the practical applications of rocket science began to be realized. Rockets work by generating a large amount of thrust to overcome the force of gravity and propel themselves into the air. They do this by burning a fuel, typically a liquid or solid propellant, in a combustion chamber. The hot gases prod...
